Poly Dicyclopentadiene Molding/Tough Resin Injection Molding

Poly Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) (T-RIM) produces large parts with an advanced strength and flawless surface appearance in a closed mold.  DCPD requires two molding surfaces, much like the Resin Transfer Molding process. However, in DCPD, the molds can be much larger. During the manufacturing process the mold closes, sealing out all moisture and oxygen. Two liquid polymer components are injected into the mold at extreme high temperatures. After curing has occurred, the mold opens and releases a tough, corrosion free, large and smooth part.

Advantages of DCPD molding includes:
  • Design freedom
  • Lightweight/Thin walled
  • Impact resistant even in colder temperatures
  • High dimension parts
  • Large molding surface
  • Energy efficient

DCPD Examples:
  • Hoods
  • Fenders
  • Boxes
  • Bumpers
  • Steps
  • Doors
  • Covers
  • Pallets
  • Wind Turbines
  • Spinners
  • Tail Cones
  • Nacelles
